总结:This research aimed at examining the extent of and association among family bonding (FB), parental monitoring (PM), peer drug use (PDU) and severity of drug abuse in a convenient sample of one hundred adolescent drug abusers between the ages of 12-19 years, currently under the care of drug rehabilitation centre, police and nongovernmental organizations (NGO’s) at Male’(Maldives). The participants responded to shortened versions of self-administered measures of FB, PM, PDU, and severity of drug abuse. One-sample t-test revealed that obtained mean family bonding score was significantly greater than its theoretical average. However, the obtained mean parental monitoring score was significantly lower than its theoretical average. Family bonding correlated significantly and positively with peer drug use and parental monitoring. There was significant negative correlation between parental monitoring and severity of drug abuse. The study showed that majority of the participants used drugs several times a day and that they obtained these drugs from their friends. It further showed that most of the participants initiated drug use between the ages of 14-15 years and they used it with older friends. The reasons for using drugs were due to anxiety, loneliness and sadness. Further research is recommended using locally adapted measuring tools.
