الملخص: | This study compares the poems of two poets; 'Abdul Qadir Al-Jilani, an Arab poet, and Hamza Al-Fansuri, a Malay poet, as well as describes the Sufism terminologies in their poems. The focus of this study are the imagery (Tashbih) and the constituent elements of these features. The researcher used the inductive approach as well as extrapolation for the comparison purpose. Generally, Al-Jilani was comfortable in the use of similes, metaphors and metonymy in a balanced manner. Meanwhile, Al-Fansuri had mostly used metaphors, had the least usage of metonymy, and a satisfactory use of similes. For the constituent elements, Al-Fansuri clearly demonstrated his opponent's influence on him by introducing the use of meanings which were known to Arab (culture), not the Malay, such as wine and its madness while symbolizing or describing divine love in particular. Thus, this study confirms the issue of Arabic influences on Malay poems in this respect in both aspects: imagery features and constituent elements. |
