In making this type of film, Islamic elements have been used by some producers, such the presence of religious man or Dai’e and the using of Quranic verses, which known as “Ruqyah”. Therefore, it faces critiques from Muslim scholars, for exploitation Islamic religious elements. Their accusations emphasized on unbeneficial purposes for development culture among Muslim society. The superstitious elements such as the presence of a ghost will elicit fear in its audience and evoke viewers’ nightmares. In addition, they will decrease Muslim beliefs toward Allah. Hence, the study will analyze two horror movies and evaluate the compatibility of horror elements with Islamic worldview. The objectives of this studies are to (1) Analyze three elements of cinematography which is theme, plot, and character in both movies, (2) Evaluate these three elements according the elements in Islamic literature criticsm by Muhammad Qutb, (3) Compare their similarities and differences between two horror movies. The study will analyze famous two horror movies from Muslim country, which are Munafik 2 (2018) from Malaysia, and Makmum (2019) from Indonesia. The results showed that both of movies close to Islamic worldview in the aspect of theme, plot, and character. In term of theme, both films emphasized on the power of goodness is above all kind of evil. Even though of that similarities there were some sub-elements is contradicted with Islam especially in Makmum, where antagonist revived from death to get her revenge and description of ghost is been detailed. These two sub-elements need to be improvised. As a conclusion horror film can be one medium for Islamic preaching or “Dakwah” to the society. |
