| 總結: | This study investigates the impact of the media on juvenile delinquency in the care ofAbu Dhabi and Fujairah - United Arab Emirates. It studies the behaviours of adolescentsin watching the media and its influence on them. It also measures the readiness ofthe delinquents to accept the awareness of media as a means of adjustment and aproactive means to prevent delinquency. In order to answer the research questions andmeasure the results, a quantitative approach was used for this study through a survey. The studysample constitutes of delinquent juveniles, as well as middle and high school students as a controlsample (sample of normal adolescents) as a means to analyse the responses. Thequestionnaire was distributed to 46 delinquent juveniles (39 males and 7 females) cared for byAbu Dhabi and Fujairah care homes. It was also distributed to 120 middle and secondary schoolstudents (65 males and 55 females) in Abu Dhabi and Fujairah. Descriptive statistics andChi- square test were used for data analysis. The findings showed that there is norelationship between adolescents imitating violent content in media and thephenomenon of juvenile delinquency as (58.69%) of the delinquents and (60%) of normaladolescent did not imitate the moves of actors in detective films. The results also showed thatthere is a positive relationship between the probability of juvenile delinquency andadolescents? watching media materials for more than four hours per day (Chi-square= 15.38, Df=2,P=0.01). As a conclusion, the more time adolescents spend on media materials may lead to juveniledelinquency. The study implicates the need for intensifying the media materials? awareness directed to adolescents, especially on television and Friday sermons, as they havea significant impact on the adolescents? personalities and receive wide acceptance among them. |
